The Miele s658i "Blue Moon" is considered by many to be the "top
of the line," "flagship" or "best of the best" of the Miele vacuum
cleaners. Truth be known, it is a machine that may be described more accurately
as a larger version of the s558i "Red Velvet."
It has all the features of the "Red Velvet" but is a larger version,
which allows for a larger capacity bag as well as some additional
assets, which may be advantageous.
As with the 500 series machines, this is also a certified HEPA
vacuum cleaner. The "Blue Moon" comes with one's choice of either
the SEB-217-2 electric power nozzle or the more aggressive SEB-226
power nozzle (not recommended for delicate carpets or rugs). Likewise,
it has the same softer "parquet" floor tool, "auto-reverse" cordwinder,
HEPA filter, electronic controls in the hose handle, as well as
the same "park" and "standby" functions found in the smaller "Red
Velvet." Because the machine is larger, it has a 6.2 quart capacity
bag (the 500 series bags are 4.5 quart capacity) and the "ribbing"
inside the bag compartment assures the machine does not lose suction
as the bag fills. Its larger tool compartment allows for a longer
crevice tool, complete with its own "extension" to reach into areas
that have always seemed to be out of reach. Because it is larger,
it has 4 wheels instead of the usual 3. Of course these wheels are
the same fully rotating, soft rubber design allowing the machine
to move in all directions without marking floors or tipping over.
Because of its larger bag capacity, we recommend it for homes
larger than 4000 square feet or for homes where a larger presence of
pet fur and/or other debris may be of concern. Of course, one may
always choose it because one prefers to vacuum once in a "Blue
Moon."
